Dan Crowell is a pastel portrait and courtroom sketch artist.  He initiated his studies in a pastel portrait art course from his instructor Carol Ann Craig.  Ms. Craig was otherwise known in the art world as “Calonie.”  Ms. Craig instructed portrait artists at Six Flags Over Texas.  Crowell subsequently studied portrait oil painting from one of Dimitri Vail’s star students, Timothy Norman.  Mr. Vail remains the premier portrait artist of Hollywood stars, like Bob Hope and Johnny Carson.

To Crowell's credit, he was commissioned by some highly celebrated individuals.  Along with his artistic skills, he is a talented singer who has performed many roles with the Dallas Opera Chorus for many years.  While with the company, the chorus commissioned him to paint Nicola Rescignio, the Artistic Director.  Many dignitaries were present at the unveiling, including the Regional President of the American Guild of Musical Artists and John Ardoin, Music Critic for the Dallas Morning News.  Recentley, the legendary opera star, Frederica von Stade, commissioned him to produce a pastel portrait of her two granddaughters.
